This page describes how to register and pay for radio licence exams. It is assumed that you have contacted your local radio club or Registered Exam Venue, and agreed a date and time. It is also assumed that you have read through the exam syllabus pages:

Note that SUWS can only hold examinations and provide practical assessment for University of Southampton staff, students and alumni. We do however run exams jointly with IVARC. Candidates in the Southampton area who are not affiliated with the University of Southampton may therefore contact IVARC to apply.

Registration

Candidates must first complete the appropriate application form, which contains the following information as follows:

  • Personal information
  • Exam venue (For SUWS examinations, this is "University of Southampton")
  • Exam date
  • Current callsign (if applicable)

Note that candidates below the age of 16 must have their application form signed by a parent or guardian. Any special requirements must also be listed on the application form. You should discuss these with the Exams Secretary or other exam organisers as appropriate.

You may either complete this form electronically, or on paper. In any case, it is recommended to submit the form by electronic means. The completed form must be sent to both the Exams Secretary or exam organiser, and also to the Examinations Department of the RSGB. For RSGB contacts, see this page.

Payment

Examination fees are paid directly to the RSGB. You may view the current exam fees and pay for your examination online at the RSGB online shop. This is the recommended payment method for examination fees. You will need to know the exam centre registration number for online payment. Please ask your exam organiser for this information. For exams held with SUWS, the exam centre registration number is 10-446/B.

If you prefer, you may complete a Debit/Credit card payment form and send this to the RSGB, either electronically or by post.

You can also pay the RSGB over the phone by calling the RSGB Examinations Department.

The RSGB will also accept cheque payment for examinations. Cheques must be payable to the RSGB.
