Creating a low bitrate wireless data network running over VHF using the UV-5R and potentially a Raspberry Pi to provide remote internet access potentially to a base station at the university.
Proposed plan
* Linux tun/tap diver to create IP interface
* find/create a Mac layer protocol for use on the VHF bands
* Create an encoder to encode the MAC layer packet into audio signals that can be sent over the radio.
Extension ideas
* Routing protocol for out of range nodes/to have multiple base stations
* Pi Backpack that connects to UV5R and provides a wifi access point / network node.

Wireless Data Network

Creating a low bitrate wireless data network running over VHF using the UV-5R and potentially a Raspberry Pi to provide remote internet access potentially to a base station at the university.

Proposed plan

  • Linux tun/tap diver to create IP interface
  • find/create a Mac layer protocol for use on the VHF bands
  • Create an encoder to encode the MAC layer packet into audio signals that can be sent over the radio.

Extension ideas

  • Routing protocol for out of range nodes/to have multiple base stations
  • Pi Backpack that connects to UV5R and provides a wifi access point / network node.
