== Amateur Radio ==

=== Recurring Points ===

* Exams
* [[Projects]]
* Callsign updates

=== AOB ===
* Idea to have an association of UK university amateur radio societies
* Support for outreach, getting new members, operating, how to become an exam centre, and annual meetings.
* We had the idea at EMFCamp when we spoke to EARS (Surrey). Probably worth contacting them more formally as a first step.
* Other unis to reach out to (rated in order of alive-ness):
** Surrey (EARS): https://www.ussu.co.uk/ClubsSocieties/societies/ears/Pages/home.aspx (confirmed alive)
** Cambridge (CUWS): http://www.g6uw.org (looks very alive, had an AGM in 2016 with a reasonably healthy number of people attending)
** Open University: http://g0our.open.ac.uk/ (looks alive, had an AGM in 2016)
** University of Sussex: http://www.g4aqg.sussex.ac.uk/ (looks alive, news from 2016)
** Kent --- looks like TinkerSoc were experimenting recently. http://www.tinkersoc.org/resources/radio.html (probably still active)
** Essex: http://ears.essex.ac.uk/ (potentially dead, last site update 2011)
** G3KAC, University of Bristol ARC: http://www.qsl.net/g3kac/ (looks potentially dead)
** G0UOP, University of Plymouth: http://www.tech.plymouth.ac.uk/dcee/features/g0uop.htm (looks very dead)
** Imperial (maybe - I think their robotics soc does amateur radio?) --- they don't seem to have anything besides PiFM on their Wiki, and that hasn't been updated in a while, so I suspect they never really did it officially. Shame.
*** Maybe --- https://www.union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/hamsoc/ (looks dead)
*** Or a past club --- http://m0bpq.weebly.com/g5yc.html (definitely dead)
** Aston used to have one but it's almost certainly dead now. Certainly the amazingly impressive masts are gone, as late as 2011! http://www.familybest.co.uk/cairo/astonmasts.htm
** I of course found plenty of personal pages by university amateurs, where there didn't seem to be any club.
* Contact the RSGB to ask for more intel on university clubs that we might hav emissed.
* Late October/early November, decide what we want to email other clubs and RSGB, search for more clubs

== Joint Agenda ==
** Table with examples of projects or photos of examples of projects
** Talk --- brief summary of club, go through projects that are fairly good examples of the things we do, Dave has extended project talk on SOWN (mostly mentioning talks on various networking related things).
*** Conversational style --- two presenters
*** Not wordy (especially on slides), less like a lecture, but still trying to get across what we do as a society

The club owns an all-bands HF valve rig, the [[FT-101EE]]. While it does work, it is in a relatively poor state. Among problems that have been noted are that the frequency drifts more than expected for a valve rig during transmission, and that the input and output frequencies are significantly offset.

Valve rigs are cool, and also likely to be what people on a student budget will be able to afford when it comes to HF rigs (especially at rallies, etc.). Therefore, it would be nice if this were fully working and in a good, presentable state.

So, let's try to restore this rig.
