* SUSU Funding issues
** we have the funding round 1 monies
** only paid £50 for the two opendays
** [[User:Schmendrick|Schmendrick]] went to investigate, and this is his carefully worded statement of events:

Originally, each society should have been paid £50 per weekend.
This is the amount the University has paid SUSU.

We considered the original email to be ambiguous and asked for
clarification as to whether the £50 was per weekend or per day.

On the 1st April a member of SUSU staff emailed back and said
very clearly and unambiguously that it was £50 per day.

We only did one weekend (2 days), and SUSU consequently paid
us only £50, as per the original plan. We, naturally, were
expecting £100, having done two days.

SUSU is investigating. The member of staff I spoke to was unsure
as to what could be done, but will email me when they know more.

My recommendation is to be patient and wait until we hear back.
If we don't like the response, then it would be appropriate for
us to approach either the Student Groups Officer, or a
Sabbatical Officer. It would be inappropriate for a student to
get into an argument directly with SUSU staff, as per the SUSU
[https://blogs.susu.org/policy/2013/05/09/staff-student-partnership-agreement/ Staff-Student Partnership Agreement].
=== Lessons Learnt from last year ===
* Henry should prepare, bring a sleeping bag...
* Phil has hayfever

* The generator is quite loud - longer power cables to allow us to put it further away.
* packing the car took far too long - do it the night before
* antennas should be further away from each other - we should at least test the interference by deliberately transmitting at each other.

* it was hot, bring more water - freeze the water bottles
* bring cool bag, the fridge wasn't big enough for everything

* operating in a gazebo may be cooler than in tents - air flow.
* we should have more specific quantities of food (pasta:water)
* we need a measuring contraption for food (mass/volume)

* don't leave the back of Phil's car open - the battery goes flat
* remove the fuse from Phil's car's interior lights

* check PSUs don't drop too much voltage during transmit

* align the rotator arms with north
* mark north on the floor

* have a separate sleeping tent from any other storage

* bring a spade to move farming by-products

* hi-viz the tent guys (and masts) for moving around at night (glow sticks?)
* same goes for power cables
== Potential locations ==

We are currently looking for a shack notes on potential places are below

=== Southampton Makerspace ===

* Landlord has approved putting a mast up
** Need to investigate how to put one up
* Possibility of lending the Discone to the makerspace.
** How much notice would we want to be able to give to get it back if we needed it?
*** 1 month seems reasonable. This would depend on how the antenna was sited.
** Set up WebSDR?

=== Building 2 ===

* Unlikely to happen due to objections of us using the room

== Student Union Meeting Room ==
The former shack in building 40 (overlooking the student union square) is now due to be converted back into a meeting room. This is expected to be completed by September 2014 and will be bookable to students. This means we have the potential to restore the former G3KMI shack to some extent, provided it does not prevent the room being used by other groups. As such, we must create a proposal asap detailing what we want.

=== Aim ===
* This should list what we would like the shack to have
* Current proposal:
** Rotatable mast erected on the side of building 40
*** HF, VHF and UHF antennas connected
*** Discussed so far: 23cm at bottom, SURGE FM broadcast above that (we'd help them get back on the air), HF antenna of some sort, 70cm+2cm with dual-band rotator, triband 2m/70cm/other vertical antenna on top of that.
*** Should feed into the meeting room, with option to extend to ground level
** Some (quantity?) lockable cabinets in the meeting room for connections to the mast and storage of radios.

=== Hardware Purchase ===
* This should list what needs purchasing
